George Commo’s Blog - Thursday 11-19-09

One week until Thanksgiving!
The Vermont High School Football season is over … almost!
There still is the matter of the 9th Annual North-South All Star Game which is scheduled for 12 Noon on Saturday at Middlebury College. The North and South All Stars have split the previous eight meeting, with the South evening the series with a win last year.
The other thing about this game of course, it is a showcase for kids hoping to be named to the Vermont team for the Shrine Maple Sugar Bowl Football Game next August.

College basketball continues to slowly come to life across the state of Vermont. The St. Michael’s men and women got their season’s underway last night against Umass-Lowell … the women getting 29 points from Logan Pintka in a 60-59 win, while the men wasted a 23 point effort from freshman Travis Warech in a 67-52 defeat.

College hockey roars into full action this weekend … the UVM Catamounts take the weekend off, leaving the doors wide open for Division Three Men’s action … Norwich opens at ECAC East newcomer University of New England and then heads to Southern Maine … St. Mike’s reverses those two opponents … Middlebury opens on the road at Tufts and Connecticut College … and Castleton opens up the newly acquired Spartan Arena (the former Rutland Regional Fieldhouse) with a home series against St. Anselm and New England College, a pair of games that will be seen this weekend on NSN Sports.

Coming up on the Big Sports Show this morning, UVM Coaches Mike Lonergan and Kevin Sneddon … and your phone calls. We are live at 9 AM or anytime after that on the George Commo Archive at nsnradio.net .
